Prior to establishing the Scottsdale Golf Group, Shelby Futch played on numerous tours including the Far Eastern and South American and in several U.S. tour events.  He also won the Illinois PGA Championship in the 1970’s.  He has owned and operated several golf course properties within the Valley and across the country, as well as a chain of golf retail stores in addition to a successful golf club fitting and manufacturing company. While serving as an instructor for the Golf Digest Schools, he founded the world famous John Jacobs’ Golf Schools. Shelby has been recognized by, and written for, some of the industry’s most coveted golf publications and is consistently honored by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Tips as one of the world’s top instructors. He has produced two series of golf instruction videos, was featured in the book Golf Gurus, and has appeared on The Golf Channel’s Golf Academy Live. As an international ambassador for golf instruction, he is a frequent guest speaker for both the Hong Kong and China PGA Tours. He is currently donating his skill to the NJCAA National Champion Scottsdale Community College Golf Team, having agreed to coach the team, pro bono.

Gordon Petrie—President
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Gordon Petrie brings more than 30 years of finance, legal and human resources experience to the Scottsdale Golf Group.  He has held several senior management positions with multinational corporations in manufacturing, hospitality and mining industries in the United States and Canada.  His experience also includes a big four CPA firm in Toronto.  Prior to joining the Scottsdale Golf Group, Gordon owned his own financial services consulting firm in Scottsdale.  He is currently a member of numerous financial organizations in the US and Europe as well as the Board of Directors of the Greater Scottsdale Boys & Girls Club.

Cliff Lawson —Vice President Golf Instruction
For over 30 years, Cliff has been a PGA Member, playing, teaching and administrating in all facets of the golf business. He has been Director of Golf at prestigious Seven Canyons Golf Club in Sedona, Arizona, taught at schools and academies across the country and internationally. Cliff oversees all John Jacobs’ Golf Schools & Academies locations.


Jerry Wilson—Vice President Public Golf Operations

With more than 26 years of experience in golf operations, Jerry Wilson joined Scottsdale Golf Group in 1994.  As the Vice President of Public Golf Operations, Jerry serves as General Manager for SGG’s Painted Mountain Golf Resort in Mesa and oversees operations at public and municipal golf properties within SGG’s management portfolio..  His diverse background includes a two year degree in agronomy and turf management, food and beverage operations, multi-facility, golf and clubhouse operations, supervision of capital construction projects, staff development and training and budgeting/cost control operations.  He has maintained his Class “A” membership in the PGA since 1993.  Prior to joining SGG, Jerry held similar management positions with Pinetop Lakes Country Club, Gold Canyon Golf Resort and Camelot Golf Club in Mesa.

John Jackson—Vice President Golf Operations & Merchandising

With more than 20 years of experience at the Phoenician Resort, managing the liaising between the hotel and regular guest business, as well as high end tournaments and outside play - John was also "merchandiser of the year" in the Southwest for many years. As Vice President of Golf Operations & Merchandising,
John serves as General Manager for SGG's Legend Trail Golf Club in North Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ernie Trunzo—Group Events Coordinator
With over 32 years of full time sales and marketing experience, Ernie joined the scottsdale golf group in May of 2006. He has 17 years of group golf sales in the Phoenix region with past golf management companies here in the valley. As the group events manager, he currently works with small and large corporate groups, charity fund raisers, mini tours, local tours, and private individual group outings at all of the scottsdale golf group properties, with group outings ranging from 16-180 players. The scottsdale golf group brand of properties allows him to provide placement and satisfy group needs to have a successful event for all customers.
