Scottsdale Golf Group selects Ken Kavanaugh for driving
range redesign for Orange Tree Golf Club
Orange Tree Golf Club has an established reputation as an ideal
practice facility. The main driving range will be remarkably improved
this coming summer, lengthened and enlarged tee area to 2 ½
times the current size. This will create one of the largest driving
range turf areas in Arizona and ensure perfect turf conditions
at all times in the grass hitting stations all year. When finished
in time for fall, Orange Tree Golf Club will provide the setting
for a state of the art and comprehensive practice facility with
a multi-station driving range, 3 large putting and a chipping
green where every conceivable golf shot can be attempted and mastered.

Scottsdale Golf Group, owner & operator of 6 valley golf
courses and a private course, River Crossing, in the Hill Country
near San Antonio, TX, purchease Legend Trail Golf Club, a Rees
Jones designed masterpierce. "Scottsdale Golf Group has
been the Managing Partner of Legend Trail Golf Club for the past
9 years. Our decision to buy our partners out is a strategic move
and part of our golf course acquistion strategy in the greater

Shelby Futch inducted to the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame
Shelby Futch grew up in West Texas and prior to establishing
the Scottsdale Golf Group, played on numerous tours including
the Far Eastern, the South American and several U.S. tour events.
Futch also won the Illinois PGA Championship in the 1970’s
and has owned and operatedseveral golf course properties within
the Valley and across the country, as well as a chain of golf
retail stores and a successful golf club fitting and manufacturing
company.

Futch named new SCC coach

When Scottsdale Community College athletic director Art Becker advertised for a golf coach to guide his defending National Junior College Athletic Association champs, never in his wildest dreams did he think he would end up hiring a former PGA Tour player who is listed among the top golf teachers in the world — as well as a highly successful CEO to boot.
“I was very, very surprised, mainly because I know who he is and what he does in the golf world — not only here in Scottsdale but across the nation,’’ said Becker, who told the Tribune on Wednesday he has hired Shelby Futch to coach the Artichokes.
Why would Futch, who is an original member of Golf Digest Schools and at one time ranked among the top 25 instructors in the country, want to take on a juco golf program, albeit a very successful one?
